The lawmakers who have been in session since September 17 are scheduled to adjourn on Thursday following the afternoon sitting until February 10, 2025.
The sports which officially commences Friday ends December 18 and brings together over 1,200 lawmakers from the eight EAC member states.
MPs travelling have been urged to arrive at the Nairobi SGR terminus by 8:30 am.
The change in the mode of transport follows the directive by National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetangula on November 19.
“I did direct and I want to repeat...as much as we possibly can, on cost-cutting measures, you will, including myself, travel to Mombasa by SGR. Organise with the clerk's office to indicate when you want to travel,” Wetang'ula said.
It was still unclear whether the lawmakers would travel in economy, first class or business class.
Adults using the Madaraka Express passenger service pay about Sh12,000 for a premium class ticket for a one-way trip and Sh20,000 for a return ticket.
Delegations from other countries participating in various disciplines started arriving in the city early this week ahead of the sports bonanza.
Each delegation will have a dedicated team of security personnel and chase cars for the duration.
Routes to be used have been mapped out and security along the routes will be at the maximum.
About six venues will be used for the games with more venues for training identified for the eight sports disciplines including football, netball, volleyball, basketball, darts, athletics, tug-of-war and golf.
Venues for the games include the Mbaraki Stadium which is undergoing renovation, Aga Khan Academy, KPA Makande Hall, Nyali Golf Club, and Shanzu Teachers Training College, Mbaraki Stadium will host football, athletics and tug-of-war, same as Shanzu TTC.
Aga Khan Academy will host netball, volleyball, basketball and darts for Persons with Disability (PWD), as will KPA Makande Hall.
Golf will be played at the Nyali Golf Club.
