Mohamud appointed EACC CEO effective January 11

This comes after the National Assembly approved his nomination paving the way for the appointment.

EACC CEO designate Abdi Mohamud.

The Ethics and Anti-Corruption Commission Chair Bishop David Oginde has appointed Abdi Mohamud to be the chief executive officer of the commission effective January 11, 2025.

The appointment was gazetted on Thursday, December 5, 2024.

Mohamud is currently serving as the deputy of outgoing CEO Twalib Mbarak.

He becomes the third CEO of the anti-graft body.

Mbarak, who is a former military intelligence officer took over from Halakhe Waqo whose Six-year term ended on January 10, 2019.

The new appointee will serve for a period of six years, non-renewable term

Mohamud’s appointment comes after the National Assembly approved his nomination after successful vetting by the Justice and Legal Affairs Committee of the National Assembly.

“That taking into consideration the findings of the committee on the vetting of the nominee, this House approves appointment of Mohamud as the secretary and CEO of the EACC,” the committee report read.

During his vetting, Mohamud assured Kenya that political interference will not prevail at EACC during his tenure.

Mohamud has served in various capacities within the commission, including as Director of Investigations.

Abdi is an Advocate of the High Court of Kenya and a seasoned investigator with a wealth of experience spanning over 30 years in the investigation of corruption and other forms of economic crimes.

He started his law enforcement career in 1989 as a Cadet Inspector at the Kenya Police Service.

He later joined the Kenya Anti-Corruption Commission (KACC) in 2005 (now, EACC) as a Senior Officer in charge of the Rapid Response Division and rose through the ranks to head the Directorate of Investigation.

Abdi has undergone expansive training over the years as a career detective in corruption and economic crimes both locally and internationally with various distinguished law enforcement agencies.

He holds a Master of Science Degree in Security and Risk Management from the University of Leicester, United Kingdom, a Bachelor of Laws Degree from Mt. Kenya University and a Professional Diploma in Law from the Kenya School of Law.
