Three suspects were arrested after a 26-year-old man succumbed to stab wounds he sustained in a fight at their apartment in the Ushirika area, Eastleigh, Nairobi.
Among those arrested was a roommate of the deceased identified as Mohamed Jibril.
Police said the deceased had a deep stab wound in the chest when he was rushed to a local hospital at the weekend.
Police said the deceased was engaged in a fight in their house over unclear reasons before he was stabbed in the left side of his chest.
A team of detectives visited the scene and recovered a kitchen knife believed to be a murder weapon.
Two mobile phones and tissue papers with bloodstains concealed in a dustbin were also recovered and kept as exhibits.
Such incidents of stabbing and violent attacks have been on the rise in parts of Eastleigh prompting police operations to tame the trend.
Investigations show some of the incidents are triggered by Somali politics and touch on clanism, which is a major factor in the community.
This has prompted police to dedicate a team of detectives from the Nairobi region and DCI headquarters to focus on Eastleigh as part of efforts to address general crime.
Officials say the area is experiencing fast growth in many issues hence need to focus on it.
Police say families in the area are living in fear due to the incidents where some of their kin are targeted and tortured for ransom.
“We have some victims in hospitals after they were attacked and stabbed by the gangs on the loose,” said an officer aware of the trend.
Apart from the robberies and extortion menace, at least five murder incidents have happened in the area in the past month alone.
All have since been solved, police say adding suspects have been arrested.
Four of them involve an Ethopian-Somali man identified as Hashim Dagane Muhumed who has since been arrested.
He has been linked to four murder incidents all involving women in the area.
Police say he may have been involved in other murder incidents, which are yet to be discovered or exposed.
Teams
are investigating how Hashim, a suspect in the murders of four women including
a 12-year-old girl in Eastleigh, Nairobi acquired a Kenyan identity card,
despite apparent evidence he may not be Kenyan.
