The newly elected
Football Kenya Federation (FKF) president Hussein Mohammed has expressed his
gratitude to FIFA and the Confederation of African Football (CAF) for
overseeing the recent FKF elections.
Taking to his
X account, Mohammed on Monday, commended the international and continental
football governing bodies for their role in ensuring a fair and transparent
electoral process.
“A big thank you
to the FIFA and the Confederation of African Football delegations for
overseeing this crucial election. Our gratitude also goes to the FKF Electoral
Board for managing a high-stakes process with professionalism and fairness.
Despite the emotions and expectations, you delivered brilliantly,” Mohammed
said.
He also
acknowledged the expectations surrounding Kenyan football and emphasized the
need for immediate action.
“Asanteni sana. It’s now time to roll up our
sleeves and begin the work needed to bring about the transformation that Kenyan
football has been longing for,” he added
Hussein Mohammed
was elected the new FKF president on December 7 in a closely contested poll
held at Moi Stadium, Kasarani.
Mohammed who was
elected alongside former Kenya international McDonald Mariga to serve as vice
president garnered 42 votes of the 90 votes.
Dorris Petra and Nick Mwendwa, her running mate, received 31
votes to finish in second place.
Former FKF CEO Barry Otieno received 10 votes, placing him in third place.
Cleophas Shimanyula came in fourth with 4 votes.
The elections were initially forced into a runoff pitting
the top three candidates only for Petra and Otieno to pull out of the race.
This was after all the candidates failed to attain the 50
per cent threshold in the first round.
The 90 delegates voted for various seats including the
presidency, deputy president, and the National Executive Committee (NEC)
members.
AFC Leopards chairman was elected the new Nairobi NEC member, succeeding Michael Ouma Majua.
Shikanda stormed to victory after garnering 25 votes against Ouma's 23, Isaac Macharia (22), James Masese (16) and Simon Mugo (2). Daniel Magara and Athanas Obango managed one vote each.
