Police probe death of student after alleged assault in Thika

A college student died in hospital after he was assaulted by a suspect in an altercation in the Runda area, Thika Town, Kiambu County.

Police said they are investigating the murder after Alvin Kirimi, 23, who was a student at Imperial College was assaulted on December 15 by a suspect known to him.

He was taken to St Matia Mulumba Hospital by good Samaritans where he succumbed to the injuries while undergoing treatment.

The body was preserved at the same hospital morgue awaiting autopsy and arrest of the suspect behind the incident, police said.

The suspect behind the same murder is at large and efforts to trace him are ongoing, police said.

Elsewhere in Mwamosioma village, Kisii County, a 21-year-old man allegedly killed his mother in a domestic fight.

Police visited the scene of the murder and found the body of Rose Nyakerario Gesengi, 45, lying on the bed with bruises on the head, neck and arms.

It was also established that the deceased and the suspect disagreed over unknown issues before the suspect allegedly descended on her with a rungu hitting her several times.

The suspect was arrested later while the murder weapon (rungu) was recovered and kept as an exhibit.

The body was moved to the Kisii Teaching and Referral Hospital morgue awaiting an autopsy, police said.

And a painter died after he fell from the third floor of a building he was working on in Thika Town, Kiambu County.

Police said Erick Okoth was among casual laborers working at the scene when he slid off and fell on his head.

The incident happened on Monday as he painted a classroom wall at a school, police said.

His colleagues rushed him to Thika Level Five Hospital where he was pronounced dead on arrival.

The body was moved to General Kago morgue awaiting postmortem examination.

Police said they are investigating the tragedy and had invited officials from Kiambu County Government and National Construction Authority to join the same.

Such accidents are common at construction sites amid claims of lack of proper compliance with the law to address the trend.
