President William Ruto has exuded confidence that Kenya is on track to host the African Nations Championships (CHAN) next year.

The president said the government is doing all that is possible to deliver a world-class experience with preparations in high gear.

"Kenya is pulling all the stops to be ready to host the African Nations Championships (CHAN) in February 2025,'' the President said on Friday.

He said the renovations at Moi Sports Centre Kasarani and Nyayo Stadium are progressing according to plan.

"Ulinzi Sports Complex and Police Sacco Stadium in Nairobi, and Kirigiti Stadium (Kiambu), which will be used for training ahead of CHAN, are also under renovation and will be ready ahead of the championships,'' the president said.

The President spoke when he met Confederation of African Football (CAF) President Patrice Motsepe, at State House Nairobi on Friday.

Ruto thanked the CAF boss for the organisation's show of confidence in the country's ability to host the games.

In Motsepe's delegation were CAF Fourth Vice-President Seidou Mbombo Njoya and Secretary-General Veron Mosengo-Omba.

Also present were Federation of Kenya Football President Hussein Mohamed, Vice-President McDonald Mariga and CHAN/AFCON Head of Secretariat Mike Rabar.

The government has insisted that it is committed to co-hosting the 19-team tournament alongside neighbours Tanzania and Uganda.

This has come despite concerns about the level of preparedness for the competition, which begins on 1 February.

It will be the first time three countries jointly host CHAN, a tournament reserved for players who feature in their national domestic leagues across the continent.

The second-tier competition is considered a dress rehearsal for Kenya, Tanzania and Uganda before the trio becomes the first three-way hosts of the Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in 2027. The rights to host next year's CHAN were awarded in December 2023.

At the time Kenya did not have any stadiums approved by Caf to host international matches, making the road to hosting steeper, but promised to have two venues ready for the tournament.

In comparison, Tanzania already had a stadium which fulfilled Caf's criteria while the venue Uganda has earmarked for CHAN was approved this year.
