Rains to reduce after Boxing Day - Met

Weatherman says most parts of the country are set to transition to sunny and dry conditions.

If you are planning to enjoy the festive season outdoors, the weatherman has good news for you - it's going to be dry and sunny from December 26.

A seven-day weather outlook issued December 24 shows that rainfall is expected to reduce significantly after Boxing Day.

Most parts of the country are currently experiencing heavy rainfall.

However, according to the Kenya Meteorology Department, most parts of the country are set to transition to sunny and dry conditions. 

However, during the start of the week, parts of Western Kenya, the Central Highlands, Lake Victoria Basin, Central and South Rift Valley, South-Eastern Lowlands, and the Coast may still experience wet conditions. 

The Met Department said highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands, and the Coast could experience heavy rains.

Daytime temperatures are set to rise, particularly in the Coast, North-Eastern Kenya, North-Western Kenya, parts of Western Kenya, and the South-Eastern Lowlands, the weatherman said.

"Highs could surpass 30°C, so it is important to stay cool, wear light clothing, and keep hydrated," said the weatherman.

As for the nights, temperatures will be cooler, especially in the Central Highlands, Central and South Rift Valley and parts of the Southeastern lowlands. 

Temperatures are expected to drop below 10°C, with residents being asked to bundle up during the chilly evenings.

The Met Department said highlands East and West of the Rift Valley, the Lake Victoria Basin, the Central and South Rift Valley, the Southeastern lowlands, and the Coast would experience heavy rains.

It also cautioned the residents of Nyandarua, Laikipia, Nyeri, Kirinyaga, Murang'a, Kiambu, Meru, Embu, Tharaka and Nairobi Counties about cold nights.

The forecast comes at a time a section of Kenyans have travelled upcountry to celebrate the festive season with family and friends.

Nairobi and its environs received rain on the eve of Christmas Day, marking a wet start to Christmas celebrations for city residents.
