Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said the country will move forward under the leadership of President William Ruto.

He expressed confidence that the former Prime Minister, Raila Odinga, will win the African Union chairman seat, saying that with the leadership of Ruto and Raila in the AU, the country will move forward united.

Speaking on Thursday in Nairobi, Kindiki expressed confidence that the country is maturing in terms of democracy.

"Our country's development will not be possible if we continue with outdated politics. Democracy allows the people to compete during the election period, but once elections are done, the people put politics aside and discuss development," Kindiki said.

"When a government comes into office, it can be a Kenya Kwanza administration but under the government of the Republic of Kenya. We are maturing as a democracy through President William Ruto and former Prime Minister Raila Odinga, who is now going to become the next head of the African Union Commission by the grace of God next month," Kindiki said.

The DP said that leaders have agreed not to engage in competition but to support each other to ensure development in the region.

Kindiki said the government will ensure that they serve all Kenyans equally regardless of how they voted in the last election.

On Thursday, Kindiki hosted various leaders from Taita Taveta County.

The consultative meeting held at his official residence in Karen converged political and grassroots leaders from the county.

Some of the issues discussed include the county's development priorities for the revitalisation of critical value chains and citizen empowerment programmes.

The leaders included Governor Andrew Mwadime, Woman Representative Lydia Haika, area MPs, and Members of the County Assembly among others.

He also held a roundtable forum with a section of Members of Parliament from Nairobi City County to deliberate on the implementation of priority development projects in the county.

MPsTJ Kajwang (Ruaraka), Tim Wanyonyi (Westlands), Beatrice Elachi (Dagoretti North), Felix Odiwuor Jalang’o (Lang’ata), George Aladwa (Makadara), Mark Mwenje (Embakasi West), Esther Passaris (Woman Representative), Anthony Oluoch (Mathare), and Peter Orero (Kibra) were in attendance.
