Elders from Embu, Meru, and Tharaka Nithi counties have urged Public Service and Human Capital Development CS Justin Muturi to hold talks with President William Ruto.
The elders said a strained relationship with does not augur well for his community and Mt Kenya at large.
“As a Njuri Ncheke elder, I want you to know we love you, Muturi, but we plead with you to talk with the President,” an elder said.
Muturi was asked to have a dialogue not only with Ruto but also with Deputy President Kithure Kindiki.
“And if there is a problem, you’re in the Cabinet; talk to them. There was a time you went for his intervention; go to him again. Go back to the government and work,” added another elder.
The elders said they are keen to see the mountain remain in government.
“Follow rules of work and unite with President and his deputy. If there is something that is not good, we are asking you to look for them and have a talk,” an elder from Meru added.
Muturi has come under pressure from a section of MPs to
resign or face impeachment over his recent remarks over the
spate of abductions in the country.
A lobby from Embu has, however, defended Muturi after a section of MPs allied demanded his resignation for questioning the government over the abductions.
Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has said the calls are baseless as ''Muturi did nothing wrong''.
Mundigi said any push to kick Muturi out of office would
further rock the Kenya Kwanza boat.
The senator said ejecting Muturi from office would offend the coalition agreement between the DP party and Kenya Kwanza.
"The calls to have Justin Muturi resign are baseless and will not help our Embu County because before he was given that CS position there was a coalition agreement with Kenya Kwanza,'' he said.
