Ruto commissions Shuublow electrification project in Wajir

President William Ruto has commissioned the Shuublow electrification project in Wajir East constituency, Wajir county.

The project which was implemented by the Rural Electrification and Renewable Energy Corporation, connects 91 households to electricity, as well as Shuublow Mixed Secondary School and a mosque.

President Ruto disclosed that his government will connect 20,000 households to electricity within the next years at a cost of about Sh3.6 billion.

REREC CEO Dr Rose Mkalama said that the corporation was in the process of expanding access to electricity, especially in the rural areas through the World Bank-funded Kenya Off-grid Solar Access Project (KOSAP).

Dr. Mkalama said that REREC in collaboration with Kenya Power would construct 120 mini-grids, which will be solar-powered and will increase access to electricity in 14 off-grid counties.

Students of Shuublow Mixed Secondary School are excited after the connection of electricity as President William Ruto watches.

Wajir is one of the countries which will benefit from the 150 million US Dollar programme.

The project will be launched later this month.
