The Kenya Meteorological Department has announced that some areas across the country will receive rainfall on Wednesday and Thursday.
The Department however said that most areas will remain dry and sunny.
Kenya Met said the Highland East of the Rift Valley, South Eastern Lowlands and Nairobi will experience light to moderate showers.
Strong winds (12.5 m/s+) are expected in Northwestern and Northeastern Kenya.
“Most areas will remain dry and sunny, but light to moderate showers are likely over the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, South-Eastern Lowlands, and Nairobi.”The weatherman called on Kenyans to stay prepared, be weather-aware and plan accordingly.
Last week, most parts of the country experienced sunny and dry conditions.
There was isolated rainfall over parts of the southwestern region.
Daytime temperatures were above 30°C in the Coast, North-Eastern, North-Western, South-Eastern Lowlands, and parts of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley while the nighttime temperatures were below 10°C in the Highlands East of the Rift Valley, Central Rift Valley, and South-Eastern Lowlands.
On January 29, the weatherman said Kenyans should expect near to above-average rainfall during the March-May long rains season.
The March to May (MAM) period is the major rainfall season (long rains) over most parts of Kenya and much of equatorial Eastern Africa.
The highest seasonal rainfall amounts (greater than 300mm) are normally experienced over the Lake Victoria Basin, the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the Central and South Rift Valley, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County) and the Coastal Strip.
The Kenya Meteorological Department director David Gikungu said near-to-above-average rainfall is expected over the Lake Victoria Basin, South Rift Valley, most of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the southern parts of the Southeastern lowlands, and the extreme northern parts of northwestern Kenya.
He said near-to-below-average rainfall is expected over the Central Rift Valley, the Highlands East of the Rift Valley (including Nairobi County), most of Northwest, Coastal region, Southeastern lowlands and isolated areas over the Highlands West of the Rift Valley.
Gikungu said the rainfall is expected over northeastern Kenya as well as the north coast.
The MAM 2025 forecast indicates that near-to-above-average rainfall is expected over the Lake Victoria Basin, South Rift Valley, most of the Highlands West of the Rift Valley, the southern parts of the southeastern lowlands, and the extreme northern parts of northwestern Kenya.
