8 suspects arrested with sacks of bhang in Elementaita

At least eight suspected drug traffickers have been arrested in a coordinated security operation that was conducted by the National Police Service on Friday morning at Elementaita in Nakuru County.

According to the police, the operation which saw the seizure of 497 kilograms of suspected cannabis packed in twenty-one sacks was conducted after a tipoff by members of the public.

''A coordinated security operation conducted early this morning in Elementaita, Nakuru County, led to the arrest of eight suspects and the recovery of 497 kilograms of suspected cannabis,'' the National Police Service said in a statement on X.

''Police Officers raided a homestead in the area, where they conducted an extensive search recovering 21 sacks of the illicit substance.''

The suspects are currently in police custody awaiting processing pending arraignment.

The security agency also commended the members of the public for providing information that led to the arrest of the suspects and recovery of the illicit substance.

The operation comes days after detectives from the Directorate of Criminal Investigations (DCI) apprehended two suspects in the coastal region of Boa, Kombani area.

The two were placed into custody having been found to have stored 12 sacks of marijuana at the homestead.

''The two were arrested with 12 sacks of marijuana, believed to have been stored at the homestead pending distribution,'' the agency said.

Major coordinated operations by the Anti-drug detectives continue around the country aimed at combating drug use and trafficking.
