Schools in Baringo County are seeing a surge in enrollment as peace and security improve in the North Rift region, Kenya Defence Forces (KDF) has said.
Learners who had bandoned their studies due to banditry are returning, thanks to enhanced security efforts by a multi-agency team and the renovation of schools by KDF.
The renovations were part of Operation Maliza Uhalifu (OMU).

KDF commenced the reconstruction of schools vandalised by
bandits in November 2023.
The affected schools include Arabal, Kapindasum, Kasiela, Sinoni, Nosukro, Ramacha, Rukus, Chebinyiny, Karne Emboss, Tuiyotichi, and Chemorongion primary schools.

The first phase involved the refurbishing vandalised classrooms, while the second phase will see the construction of new classrooms.
In September 2024, KDF announced a surge in enrollment as peace and security improve in the North Rift region.
President William Ruto ordered the immediate deployment of KDF officers to undertake the construction of classes burnt down by bandits and repair those falling apart due to neglect.
Ruto assured parents in the region that the government will guarantee the security of all learners and learning institutions.
Most of the schools in the region were either vandalised, destroyed, or converted into homes by the marauding cattle rustlers as they raided homes and maimed residents.
