A total of 294 units are ready and available at two Affordable Housing Projects in Machakos County.

At Machakos Survey Camp, 74 units are available consisting of 48 two bedroom units and 26 three bedroom units.

Amenities available include green spaces for relaxation, adequate parking, well-paved pedestrian and vehicle paths and play areas and green fields for a family-friendly environment.

At the Machakos Township AHP, off Chumvi-Machakos-Kitui Road, near Machakos Teachers' College and Kenya Urban Roads Authority offices, 220 units are available.

They comprise 60 studio apartments, 40 one-bedroom units, 60 two-bedroom units and 60 three-bedroom units.

Amenities include green spaces and leisure areas, ample parking, well-paved pedestrian and vehicle paths and playgrounds and green fields.

Ministry of Lands, Public Works, Housing and Urban Development noted that under the affordable housing program, all Kenyans above the age of 18 can benefit from the scheme.

“The programme therefore has a one ID, one home policy which will be enforced,” the ministry stated.

It said houses will be allocated through a fair and transparent system, free of any human intervention or contact, on a “first past the post” basis.

“This means that those qualified for allocation will be ordered on a list by the date and time when they fulfilled all the requirements for allocation including saving for the deposit,” the ministry stated.

The ministry added that all occupants get equal rights to purchase and own a home under the programme, including the protected and affirmative action groups, those living with disabilities, youth, women, and the elderly.

The Affordable Housing Programme is a government initiative to provide decent and affordable housing to key households.

The goal is to reduce the gap between the demand and supply of housing in Kenya and to contribute to the broader objective of building 200,000 affordable houses annually.

It is part of the government’s key component of the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda (BETA) and serves the dual purpose of addressing the critical housing shortage while stimulating economic recovery through job creation across the extensive housing value chain.
