Nairobi is set for an exciting moment with the anticipated performance by Afrique Like Me’s eclectic in the finale of the ongoing Kilele summit.
The summit, which was organised by Santuri East Africa, promotes music, technology and culture making it the perfect stage for cutting-edge African sounds and music.
Similar to the inaugural summit held in February 2024, the second edition has seen a wave of excitement, anticipation and enthusiasm as artists, music enthusiasts and cultural leaders converge to celebrate.
This year's edition debuted on February 18, with its grand finale slated for February 22 which promises an astounding performance by the likes of Afrique Like Me.
Founded in 2019, the trio Afrique Like Me is a Canada-based collective comprising Razaq El Toro, Martin Ses, and Sonic Griot.
The group's eclectic sound has earned it a reputation for masterfully blending African rhythms with underground electronic music and throwing Toronto’s largest African Electronic Music events.
Speaking to the Star at The Mall in Westlands on Wednesday, Benrt Isak, who is a co-founder of Kilele, said that the summit featured a series of activities such as panels, speed talks and workshops, vendors who sold a variety of cultural products while enabling an environment of social interactions and connections.
''We have workshops going on round, panels and talks. In the evening, we have film screenings, showcasing and concerts,'' Bernt said.
''People from more than 20 countries came to participate and showcase their art and to create new connections, new collaborations and exchange which represent the core values of Kilele.''
Other notable experiences include the instrument makers lab which enabled artists to execute their talents and innovation by modifying musical instruments using recycled trash and traditional materials.
The musical experiences that celebrate African and diasporic artistry through electronic dance, underground and alternative music have certainly seen Kilele Summit take the spotlight and with the edition finale set on Saturday, it promises to end with a bang!
