Former Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua allies have protested the arrest of Juja MP George Koimburi, who was arrested on Tuesday morning.

Addressing a press conference in Parliament Buildings on Thursday, the lawmakers claimed they are being silenced for their resolve to stand with Gachagua.

They included Senators Joe Nyutu (Muranga), John Methu (Nyandarua), Karungo Thang'wa (Kiambu), and Kanar Seki (Kajiado).

Others are MPs Onesmus Ngongoyo (Kajiado North), Jayne Kihara (Naivasha), Wanjiku Muhia (Kipipiri).

"We have seen a plan by this government to frustrate those who are opposed to the administration," Kajiado North MP said.

The MPs spoke following the arrest of Juja MP George Koimburi.

They claimed that there had been plans to rearrest Koimburi after he was charged on February 19, 2025.

"If Gachagua and his people were the problems, you have many sycophants from Mt Kenya region who you can appoint to those positions," Nyutu said.

There was drama at Kiambu Law Courts on Thursday after Koimburi was cleared of contempt of court charges.

A spectacle unfolded immediately after Koimburi stepped out of court  after some men in plain clothes were reportedly waiting to re-arrest him.

In the ensuing commotion, the MP made a swift escape on a motorbike.
