Speaking in Lamu County when he laid the foundation stone for the construction of the Mokowe Affordable Housing Project, Ruto said the country will not be derailed by visionless leaders promoting negative ethnicity.
Urging Kenyans to unite and focus on the country’s development agenda, the Head of State dismissed tribal politics as outdated.
“Every Kenyan has a right to live in any part of the country. Do not give an opportunity to such leaders who are preaching divisions,” he said.
Without referring to anyone, Ruto said the particular politicians have no agenda or plans for the country and that their work is just politicking.
“We must stay united, we must stay together, we are one people with one nation with a common destiny and we shall succeed together,” he remarked.
He also vowed to end marginalisation in the country saying all regions must be treated equally.
Earlier on, Ruto launched the Kenya Off-Grid Solar Access Project (KOSAP) at Ndau Island in the county.
The Sh10 billion initiative by the government and development partners aims at providing electricity to 14 marginalised counties.
It covers Garissa, Isiolo, Kilifi, Kwale, Lamu, Mandera, Marsabit, Narok, Samburu, Taita Taveta, Tana River, Turkana, Wajir and West Pokot counties.
As the target counties are not served by the national grid, 120 mini-grids will be constructed to be the main source of energy.
The mini-grids will then be used to provide electricity to community facilities, enterprises and households.
In Tana River County, Ruto commissioned the Bura Gravity Canal project, a significant initiative aimed at enhancing irrigation and agricultural productivity in Bura Constituency. Ruto is in the coastal region on a week-long development tour.
He was accompanied by several elected leaders from the region.
