Embu Senator Alexander Mundigi has urged residents to show President William Ruto love and hospitality during his tour of the Mount Kenya region.
The senator emphasized that a warm welcome could lead to development benefits from the head of state.
Speaking on Monday, Mundigi stressed the importance of good manners when receiving visitors, calling on residents to turn out in large numbers to welcome the President.
President Ruto is set to begin a five-day tour of the region on April 1, marking his first visit since the impeachment of his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua, last year.
He is expected to traverse the 10 counties of Mount Kenya, a trip seen as a big test for him since Gachagua’s removal from office.
Mundigi, who was elected on the Democratic Party (DP) ticket in the 2022 general election, urged residents not to disrupt the President’s visit.
“Let us come out in large numbers and welcome the President with love. Even the Bible says that when you welcome a visitor, they leave good things behind,” Mundigi said.
“If that
meeting is not yours, why would you go there to heckle others? Simply stay
away. Let us show the president some love.”
The senator emphasized that Kenya is a democratic country where citizens have the right to attend meetings without intimidation.
“We know the President loves us and will leave behind good things, including roads and other development projects,” he added.
Mundigi’s remarks come as Ruto’s allies mobilize residents ahead of his highly anticipated visit, with the trip set to be closely watched ahead of the 2027 polls.
Earlier, former Bahati MP Kimani Ngunjiri also urged Mount Kenya residents to welcome the President with maturity and respect.
He
emphasized that since the region contributed 47% of the votes that secured
Ruto’s presidency in 2022, it is crucial to foster unity and patience for
development to be realized.
