Doctors at Nairobi Hospital have urged the facility’s board to adhere to court orders issued on Friday.

The doctors cautioned contractors, persons or companies against entering into any contracts with the facility that might be in contravention of the court ruling

The doctors, who are members of the Kenya Hospital Association, said the board should not enter into any deal that will be in direct violation of court orders.

In a statement, the doctors noted the six elected directors, including the vice chair, have already resigned. They have also called upon the remaining directors to step aside.

It is time to step down and allow for the urgent reorganisation. Failure to resign would constrain us to continue in the agitation and deployment of all lawful means to ensure that you step down,” they said.

They said contractors, entities, or individuals who might be working with the board in disregard for the court orders must immediately cease.

“We wish to assure all stakeholders that we remain steadfast in our commitment to restoring excellence in healthcare. We appreciate your patience as we take urgent, decisive steps to implement the necessary reforms,” the statement reads in part.

Nairobi Hospital on Friday suffered a blow after the High Court declined its request to lift orders suspending the implementation of the resolutions of last December’s election of a new board of directors.

In his exparte orders, Justice Mulwa also stopped the board from using assets of the association as collateral for any loans.

The orders also stopped the board from buying hospital equipment, furniture, and fittings, upgrade and maintenance of physical assets such as property, plants, buildings, technology or equipment; settling pending bills, spending on any new procured projects or investments.

Samuel Muchiri has challenged the outcome of the December 4 election of a new board of directors, faulting its conduct.

Muchiri is a medical doctor and a member of the Kenya Hospital Association.
