McCarthy’s arrival heralds a fresh chapter for Kenyan football, one that promises to blend experience, passion and a fervent desire for success.

The transition from the Turkish gaffer Engin Firat to McCarthy comes after a tumultuous period for the Stars.

Firat’s tenure was marred by disappointment, culminating in the team’s failure to secure a place in the 2025 Africa Cup of Nations (Afcon) in Morocco.

McCarthy, a name synonymous with excellence in South African football, is not only a former player of great repute but also a coach with a burgeoning legacy.

His illustrious playing career, which saw him don the jerseys of clubs such as Ajax, Porto and United, is complemented by his remarkable coaching achievements.

Having recently served as a striker coach under Erik ten Hag at United, McCarthy’s return to the African coaching scene is both timely and promising.

McCarthy in Nairobi will be accompanied by his former Orlando Pirates teammate Moeneeb Josephs, who will assume the role of goalkeeper coach.
