A family in Nairobi's Huruma estate is
devastated after their three-year-old son died after falling from the balcony
of the fifth floor of an apartment.
The boy was
playing with his friends on the balcony of the building when he slid and fell off on Monday evening, police and his family said.
He fell headfirst and died on the spot, police and witnesses
said.
His mother told police she was in the house as the boy and his
friends played outside when she heard screams.
She ran out and found the boy missing and on reaching the ground floor she found the body of the minor sprawled with blood oozing from the ears and nose.
The neighbours picked up the bleeding boy to a nearby hospital where he was confirmed dead on arrival.
Police said they are investigating the tragedy. A team visited
the scene as part of the probe into the death.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
Nairobi police boss George Sedah said they are investigating the
incident.
Such accidents are common in informal settlements amid calls have been made to developers to ensure they install grills to mitigate them.
Greedy developers overlook safety measures, which exposes many to the dangers, officials say.
Elsewhere, a mason died in hospital after he fell from the eighth floor of a house under
construction in Mukuru, Nairobi.
The victim identified as Joseph Mutinda was among those constructing the Mukuru Affordable Housing project in Balozi area.
On February 15, 2025, he slid from the eighth floor and landed on his head sustaining serious injuries.
He was rushed to Kenyatta National Hospital where he
succumbed to the injuries two weeks later, police said.
The body is lying at the mortuary pending autopsy and other procedures.
In a different incident, police are
investigating an incident where a man was found dead on the roadside in
Embakasi, Nairobi.
The deceased was identified as Peter Muiruri Wambua, 33.
Police said he had no visible injuries at the time the body was
discovered by pedestrians.
Police moved the body to the mortuary pending autopsy and other investigations.
