At least five people were found dead in
separate suspected suicide incidents reported to police.
Police said the incidents were reported on
March 4 indicating the magnitude of the menace amid efforts to contain the trend.
The first incident was reported in Karura
Forest in the city where hikers found a body dangling on a tree on Tuesday evening.
The man identified as Caleb Kirinya had
accessed the forest earlier on before he abandoned a bag he had on a bench and
hanged himself, police said.
The hikers called Kenya Forest Service
personnel who arrived at the scene and confirmed the man had entered the park
from Limuru Road gate before allegedly hanging himself there using a rope that was found
tied around his neck.
The motive of the incident is yet to be
known. The body was moved to the mortuary pending autopsy.
In Karen Plains, Nairobi, a 24-year-old woman
was found dead in a suspected suicide mission in her house.
The police identified her as Lydia Kwamboka.
She was alone in the house when she died by suicide.
Police said a relative had reported the woman allegedly had a domestic quarrel with her husband who left for work on Monday morning but
when he came back he found her body hanging on a nylon rope.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending
autopsy.
In Kasarani area, Nairobi, a man aged 18 was
found dead after a suspected suicide in their house.
The body of Sankara Wambaa was found in the
house, dangling from a roof truss with a rope tied around his neck long after he had
died on Tuesday morning, police said.
The motive of the incident was not
immediately known and the body was moved to Kenyatta University mortuary awaiting
postmortem.
In Nairobi's Mukuru slums, a 51-year-old man was
found dead in a lodging after a suspected suicide.
A cleaner said she was on her routine work
when she found the body of Patrick Mungala hanging on a window pane with a belt
tied around his neck.
The body was moved to the mortuary pending
autopsy.
In Wundanyi, Taita Taveta County, the body of a man identified as Mwadavadi Mwelingo, 32, was found in his house long after a suspected
suicide incident.
Police said no suicide note was found and
they are yet to establish the motive of the same.
The body is lying at a local mortuary pending
autopsy and other investigations.
Police say cases of suicide have been on the
rise with up to two being reported daily.
The government has been taking measures to
address the menace.
The World Health Organisation says such cases are attributed to joblessness, death, academic failures or pressures, legal difficulties, and financial difficulties.
Other reasons are bullying, previous suicide attempts, history of suicide in a family, alcoholism and substance misuse, depression, and bipolar disorder.
