President William Ruto has announced the release of Sh950 million by his government to revive stalled road construction projects in Nyeri County.

Addressing residents of Nyeri Town during his development tour of the Mount Kenya region, President Ruto said the improved state of the economy now allows the government to support projects that had previously stalled.

For the past two years, many road projects across the country have come to a halt due to economic challenges.

"This week, we have released Sh950 million to jumpstart all the stalled road projects so that their construction can continue,” said President Ruto.

He assured residents that the government is committed to reviving the unfinished infrastructure initiatives.

“In the past, we had some economic difficulties, but we have since resolved them. We are now going to revive all your stalled road projects,” he added.

Ahead of his tour of the Mt Kenya region, local leaders had appealed to the President to ensure the completion of projects initiated under his predecessor, former President Uhuru Kenyatta.

Critics had cited the stalled developments as evidence of alleged neglect of the region by the current administration.

However, in his five-day tour of the region, President Ruto sought to reassure residents that he has not sidelined them, instead rolling out a series of development pledges, including multi-billion-shilling electricity connectivity programs.

“We shall complete all those stalled projects to ensure we fulfil our campaign promises to the people of Nyeri County,” Ruto told the crowd on April 5.

During his visit to Nyeri, the President also announced that at least 10,000 households in the county will be connected to electricity within the next seven months.

He made the remarks on Saturday while inspecting the ongoing construction of the Ruringu Affordable Housing Project in Nyeri Town Constituency.

“My government has allocated Sh850 million for this project,” he said.

“Because some parts of Nyeri are still lagging, we will add another Sh600 million after the end of this year to ensure electricity reaches every home.

The President directed Energy Principal Secretary Kamau Wachira to ensure the directives are implemented within the set timelines.

The tour forms part of the President’s wider effort to solidify his support base in the Mt Kenya region, promising renewed development efforts and emphasizing unity.
