Githunguri MP Gathoni Wamuchomba has claimed that police in Kiambu have summoned her to record a statement, an action she believes is politically motivated.
The MP made the claim on her verified X account, suggesting that the summons could be linked to political tensions in her constituency, where she claims residents have refused to be coerced by “fake promises.”
“The County Criminal Investigations Officer, Kiambu, has summoned me via a telephone call because the great people of Githunguri refused to be lured by fake promises and projects that never materialized,” Wamuchomba wrote.
“Arrests you can do, but that will not change the facts!” she added.
The summons comes just hours before President William Ruto is scheduled to arrive in her Githunguri Constituency on Saturday as he concludes his week-long tour of the Mt. Kenya region.
The President will inspect the ongoing construction of the Mau Mau Roads at Nyanduma in Lari, Kiambu, and will also visit other government projects, including the Githunguri County Integrated Industrial Park.
In Nyeri, Ruto launched an affordable housing project in Ruringu, Nyeri Town Constituency, and commissioned a fresh produce market in Othaya Constituency.
The President began his extensive tour of the politically restive region on April 1 — his first in six months — following the impeachment of his former deputy, Rigathi Gachagua.
Wamuchomba, a close ally of Gachagua, has in recent months emerged as a vocal critic of the Kenya Kwanza administration, making her one of the more defiant leaders in the region.
In a move seen as aimed at consolidating his support in Kiambu, President Ruto recently appointed former Kiambu Governor William Kabogo as Cabinet Secretary for ICT.
Several other leaders from Kiambu County, including Governor Kimani Wamatangi, have thrown their weight behind the President.
Observers argue that despite early concerns over potential hostility, President Ruto’s Mt. Kenya tour has been largely successful.
