This week, Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has been actively engaged in various initiatives, emphasizing his commitment to supporting President William Ruto's administration.
In a major political statement, the DP joined his boss in a five-day tour of the Mount Kenya region, where he emphasised that the region is behind President Ruto.
During the
tour, Kindiki told off his allies who have branded him a ‘Mr Yes man’ saying he
is serving the president diligently without usurping his powers.
During a public address in Laikipia County on April 1, 2025, Kindiki underscored his dedication to his constitutional role, stating, "My responsibility is to support the President, defend him, and collaborate with my colleagues to ensure the government's agenda is delivered effectively to the people of Kenya."
He revealed
that unnamed individuals had approached him, urging opposition to President
Ruto, but he firmly rejected these advances, reiterating his loyalty to the
administration.
“Some people are advising me to fight the President. My job is to support the President, to defend him, to work under him with my colleagues to make sure we follow through the President's promises and deliver development to the people of Kenya,” Kindiki said on Tuesday.
In a significant move to support Miraa farmers, President Ruto tasked Kindiki with dismantling cartels exploiting the sector.
Speaking in Maua, Igembe South Constituency, Meru County, on April 2, 2025, Kindiki expressed readiness to tackle the issue.
"Just as I did with cattle rustlers when I was in charge of the Interior ministry, leave the cartels to me. I will deal with them."
Kindiki added that he should also not be taken for a fool because he knows what he is doing.
“Some are
ridiculing me for being loyal to the President. They are saying I'm a ‘Mr Yes
Man’. The President was himself a loyal, Mr Yes Man, to former President Uhuru
Kenyatta for 10 years.
“I'm not stupid, I know what I’m doing. You must be loyal to the President to get things done and assist the President in delivering on his agenda for the country,” the Deputy President said.
Kindiki’s remarks come a day after he said that together with other leaders in government, they will not waste time responding to critics who have no better alternative for Kenya.
He insisted that his job is to assist, support and defend the President, but not to fight him.
The DP affirmed that he remains firm in sticking to his core mandate of supporting and defending the President.
“Some people are advising me to fight the President. My job is to support the President, to defend him, to work under him with my colleagues to make sure we follow through the President's promises and deliver development to the people of Kenya,” Kindiki said on Tuesday.
Kindiki said the tour aims to address developmental issues and engage with local communities to understand their needs better.
During the
tour President Ruto on April 2 called on Kindiki to remain loyal and
supportive in their mission to develop the nation.
On April 2, Kindiki joined President Ruto in opening the construction of a Sh310 million modern two-storey market in Kagio Town, Kirinyaga County.
Once completed and operational, Kagio Modern Market will accommodate more than 2,000 and create a befitting and safe environment for interaction with their customers, Kindiki said.
In Tigania West, Meru county, Kindiki joined Ruto in commissioning the Kibiru Beef Feedlot; a community feedlot to aggregate animals from local cooperative societies and improve livestock production.
To guarantee land ownership, the President issued 10,800 title deeds to local land owners.
In Imenti South, Meru County, they officially opened the Nkuene Power Sub-Station and flagged off the Last Mile Connectivity program for Meru County.
