Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen has asked National Government Administration Officers (NGAOs) to steer away from politics and concentrate on service delivery.
Speaking at the Jukwaa La Usalama, Makueni County Edition at Makueni Boys High school, Murkomen said NGAOs should consistently be focused on delivering on their mandates.
“Chiefs, do your jobs, leave the politics to MCAs and other people because you are not looking for votes. In fact, countries that are doing so well are the ones that have separate political inclination and public service,” he said.
Murkomen urged administrative officers to stand by truth and justice in the course of their duties.
“To be honest when I come across an Assistant County Commissioner, a Deputy County Commissioner or County Commissioner who was tough on me but stood by the truth when we were on the other side of the political divide, they will be the first people I will agree with even if they made my life difficult,” he stated.
Murkomen further cautioned government officers against serving regions according to the way they voted in the last elections.
“The President has instructed us to serve all parts of the country the way the Constitution stipulates. All Kenyans have their rights. When you say Governor Mutula Kilonzo was elected on a certain party ticket and the President on a rival outfit, what about tomorrow? What do you know about tomorrow, and you can see how the political landscape keeps changing,” he said.
National Government Administrative Officers are an administrative and institutional framework established under the National Government Coordination Act and Chiefs Act for coordination of national government functions at the national and county levels of governance.
Functions of National Government Administrative Officers include initiation, formulation, dissemination and implementation of national government policies, plans and programmes.
They also provide strategic leadership and policy direction; promote statehood and nationhood; co-ordinate service delivery and co-ordinate national security among other functions.
