Five non-local quarry workers were killed early Tuesday morning in a suspected al Shabaab terrorist attack in Bur Abor village, Mandera East.

The incident occurred at approximately 7:00 AM, with eyewitnesses and initial investigations pointing to suspected al Shabaab militants as the perpetrators.

The victims, who were employed at a local quarry, were targeted in what local officials have described as a “tragic security incident.”

The killings have caused widespread fear and tension among residents of the village, with security authorities rushing to the scene to begin investigations.

“The identities of the victims are being confirmed,” said Mohamed Abdiaziz Roble, the Village Administrator of Bur Abor, in an official brief.

“Efforts are underway to notify their families and home communities.”

Security personnel were deployed immediately after the attack, and investigations are ongoing to determine the full circumstances and motive.

No group has formally claimed responsibility, but authorities strongly suspect involvement by the Somalia-based Al-Shabaab group, which has carried out similar attacks in the region.

The village administration, in collaboration with local law enforcement, is implementing heightened security measures to protect residents and visitors.

Roble also urged community members to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities to the authorities.

“This is a deeply troubling event. We are working closely with security forces to ensure justice and restore a sense of safety,” added Roble.
