Kilgoris MP Julius Sunkuli on Tuesday petitioned the National Assembly to investigate Monday's clashes in Angata Barrikoi.

Sunkuli, whose constituency was the scene of the incident, called for immediate action and accountability over the use of force by police officers and the controversial land demarcation exercise at the heart of the unrest.

In a statement directed to the Committee on Administration and Internal Security, Sunkuli questioned who authorised the police officers to use live ammunition against unarmed civilians.

He is also demanding to know why the Lands Registrar and surveyors proceeded to survey land without engaging the community, which believes it is the rightful owner.

Additionally, he has raised concerns about why certain officers had overstayed in the area.

"Why did the Ministry retain officers in Lolgorian station beyond their useful period? Are they serving special interests, and what interest is this being served"? he questioned.

"The security situation remains tense," Sunkuli added, emphasising the need for the Ministry of Interior to de-escalate tensions and ensure justice and transparency in handling land matters.

He called on the government to halt all land demarcation efforts in the area until the dispute is resolved amicably.

He warned that failure to address the grievances of local communities could further inflame conflict.

During the Monday's incident, Sunkuli said six people lost their lives.

The Kilgoris Land Registrar, several residents, and police officers, he added, also sustained injuries and were hospitalised.

The demonstration reportedly turned chaotic over a disputed parcel of land that locals claim as ancestral territory.

In his ruling, National Assembly Speaker Moses Wetang’ula directed the Committee to furnish the House with a preliminary report by Wednesday.

The committee chaired by Narok West MP Gabriel Tongoyo, he said, should engage the Interior Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen to provide details on what he termed as the "unfortunate incident that led to the killings.
