Elephant tusks recovered during a police operation in Marsabit County/HANDOUTThree people are in custody after police in Marsabit recovered 13 pieces of elephant tusks during an operation in Majengo area, in what authorities say is part of ongoing efforts to curb wildlife trafficking.
According to a statement from law enforcement, officers from Marsabit Police Station acted on a tip-off and raided a residential house where the contraband was allegedly being kept.
The suspects are identified as Wario Ali Halo, Umuro Afani Duba and Alkano Elema Galgalo.
Police said the suspects were found inside the house when officers entered the premises. A search of the residence led to the recovery of a green sack containing 13 pieces of elephant tusks, which were taken as exhibits.
The three suspects were arrested at the scene and escorted to Marsabit Police Station, where they are being held as they undergo processing ahead of their appearance in court. The recovered tusks remain in police custody.
The National Police Service, through the operation, reiterated its commitment in collaboration with other government agencies and stakeholders to combating wildlife crime and protecting endangered species.
