President William Ruto on Tuesday hosted Kenyan students and lecturers who emerged victorious at the 2026 Global Huawei ICT Competition at State House, Nairobi, celebrating their achievement on the global stage.
Ruto hailed the students' success as proof that Kenya has the talent to become a global technology powerhouse, saying the future belongs to innovators who create tomorrow's technologies rather than those who merely use today's innovations.
"The future will not belong merely to those who master today's technologies, t will belong to those who imagine, invent, and build the technologies that the world has not yet conceived, but which will one day redefine economies, transform societies and shape the future of humanity," the President said.

He noted that emerging fields such as artificial intelligence, robotics, quantum computing, biotechnology, advanced semiconductor physics, autonomous systems, space technology and next-generation communications will shape the future, making talent development a national competitiveness agenda.
"The nations that cultivate innovators rather than mere consumers of technology will be the nations that lead the 21st Century," he added.

Ruto congratulated the Kenyan delegation for their outstanding performance at the 2026 Global Huawei ICT Competition, the world's largest ICT skills competition, which attracted more than 220,000 participants from over 2,000 institutions across more than 100 countries. Only 177 teams from 49 countries qualified for the global finals held in Shenzhen, China.
The President said he was particularly proud that all three Kenyan university teams returned home with global honours.
The highest recognition came from Kenya's Cloud Track Team, which won the Grand Prize—the country's first top award since it began participating in the competition in 2019.
