Former Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari has termed the Supreme Court verdict that challenged the win of Bola Tinubu as a welcome relief.

In a statement, Buhari said he welcomes the decision to dismiss the appeal by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), and Peter Obi of the Labour Party (LP)

"The decision by the highest court is a reaffirmation of the will of the majority of the people against the determined will of a hard-fighting minority," he said.

“Now that we have arrived at the last bus stop, after a tortuous 8-months of expensive legal journey, the nation deserves a break."

The leader, however, noted that the opposition fought a good fight in their petition by exhausting their rights as constitutionally allowed.

"They should take the hand of fellowship extended by the Tinubu's government. Let them allow the Government to run their administration and the people to enjoy the full benefits of the promises the All Progressives Congress (APC) made," he noted.

On voter turnout, Buhari noted that in the February elections, there was a low percentage turnover all over Nigeria, adding the trend should change in future.

"I wish the President and his team a successful term in office."

The Nigerian Supreme Court on Thursday upheld Tinubu's presidential will, after eight months.

The ruling now brings to an end a legal challenge presented by Alhaji Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party, and Peter Obi of the Labour Party.

The petitioners argued that the elections were merged with widespread rigging and manipulation of tallies.

Tinubu was on March 29, 2023, sworn in as the legitimate president of Nigeria in a ceremony attended by thousands despite the court case.
