Top honcho facing a fierce rebellion from within his inner circle

A SENIOR GOVERNMENT official was overheard roasting a leader over what he termed attempts to “remove meat from my mouth.” The man, who appeared furious, told whoever cared to listen how he was ready to roll up his sleeves and defend the government against the criticism of the leader he accused of doing little to save him politically, but was now working hard to see his downfall. STILL ON GOVERNMENT, another top honcho appointed last year is facing a fierce rebellion from within his inner circle. Those who worked with him before he rose to glory now claim he has abandoned them and instead recruited a bevy of women around him. An enraged former confidant said the man, who is fronting a candidate for governor in his home county, is now no longer reachable. Sometimes they are forced to reach out to the women around him to contact him. That is the only time he promptly picks up their calls. The disgruntled lot is plotting to bring down the big boss.

A SECTION OF leaders from Western has accused organisers of President William Ruto’s tour of excluding them. They said despite working with grassroots leaders to campaign for Ruto ahead of the 2022 election, the President’s men have now opted to work with a new team while shoving them aside. Most of them gave the President’s trip a wide berth, accusing his inner circle of categorising them among non-elected leaders who do not deserve the President’s attention, yet “we lost our seats as some of us could not be elected because we sacrificed for him regardless of the mood on the ground in 2022,” one of them said. The grumblers said they may reconsider their stand going forward.

THE STREETS OF Nairobi’s CBD have been swept clean of hawkers and shoe shiners. But this is causing a bitter fallout at City Hall as most of the stalls removed allegedly belonged to officials in Governor Johnson Sakaja’s administration. Our moles heard that the owners of the stalls are planning to return them in order to reap from the city traders who paid them Sh300 per day for each shoe shining booth. But the tough-talking governor has vowed not to relent in restoring order to the city.
