Serious crimes reported to the police by type
The latest report from the National Council on the Administration of Justice reveals alarming statistics on serious crimes reported in Kenya for the financial year 2023/2024.
Homicide cases are significant, with 3,028 incidents reported, while morality offenses reached 7,776 cases.
Robberies were recorded at 3,913, and break-ins numbered 6,426. Other notable statistics include drug-related offenses, which topped the list at 9,107 cases, and criminal damage cases, totaling 5,028.
Theft of stock, vehicles, and property were also prevalent, with varying figures across categories.
Serious criminal activities declined between fiscal years 2019/20 and 2020/21 but subsequently increased steadily to 104,769 in FY 2023/24.
The rise could be attributed to high unemployment
rates.
