
The average cost of 200 units of electricity has risen sharply over the past five years, according to data from the Kenya National Bureau of Statistics (KNBS).
In March 2021, consumers paid an average of Sh4,920. By March 2025, the price had climbed to Sh5,687. This is a Sh767 increase in just four years.
The highest spike was recorded in March 2024, when the cost soared to Sh6,730.20.
Although prices dropped slightly in 2025, they remain significantly higher than in previous years.
