Uruguay won the inaugural 1930 tournament, followed by Italy’s consecutive victories in 1934 and 1938.

Uruguay triumphed again in 1950, before West Germany won in 1954. Brazil dominated by securing titles in 1958, 1962, and 1970.

England claimed victory in 1966. West Germany earned another title in 1974, and Argentina concluded this era with their 1978 win.

 Italy won in 1982, followed by Argentina in 1986 and West Germany in 1990.

Brazil secured victories in 1994 and 2002. France achieved titles in 1998 and 2018.
