Deputy President William Ruto's UDA party is likely to win big in Kirinyaga county after registering an excellent performance in all four national assembly posts.
In the results that were declared on Wednesday and Thursday, in various tallying centers across the four constituencies, Ndia's George Kariuki, Gichugu's Gichimu Githinji, Gachoki Gitari(Kirinyaga central) and first term Mwea MP elect Mary Maingi won.
In Gichugu, incumbent MP Gichimu Githinji was Thursday declared the winner after trouncing his other 9 opponents with a total of 33,889 votes.
His closest rival Peterson Njomo Muchira came in second with a total of 15,069 votes. The constituency has a total of 65,736 registered voters.
Speaking after being awarded the IEBC certificate, Gichimu thanked the constituents for granting him a second chance.
He promised to use his position to work for all Gichugu residents regardless of who supported him or not.
In Kirinyaga central, Gachoki Gitari recaptured the seat after having been in the political cold for the last five years.
Gitari clinched the seat with a total of 34,074 votes against his closest opponent and the incumbent MP Munene Wambugu who garnered 22,591 votes after vying on a Jubilee party ticket.
Gitari in his acceptance speech thanked the electoral agency officials for maintaining professionalism in their work.
He equally thanked his supporters for showing up overwhelmingly to vote him in.
He pledged not to break the trust they have placed in him but instead promised to serve them dutifully to the best of his ability.
In the populous Mwea, Mary Maingi was declared the duly elected MP after garnering 50,667 votes against the Jubilee's Kabinga Wachira who managed 31,735 votes.
On Wednesday, UDA's George Kariuki was declared the Ndia MP-elect after garnering 25,031 votes.
Besides that, the party also took a lion's share of 17 out of 20 MCA slots across the county.
The other three were won by The service party (TSP)and the Jubilee party.
Winners of the woman rep, governor and senatorial 's posts are yet to be declared by the electoral agency.
