Njambini Health Centre will soon be renamed Mama Mukami in the honour of the fallen Dedan Kimathi’s widow.

Speaking during the burial of Mukami Kimathi, Governor Moses  Badilisha sought the help of President William Ruto to upgrade the facility to level 4 to offer better services to the locals.

He noted that even though the Ministry of Health had promised to help the facility have maternity, residents in the area need a facility where they can access healthcare services due to the cold which he has associated with Sasamua dam.

“The Ministry of health promised us a maternity because this is where we give birth a lot. In the history of Nyandarua the records I have the highest births are in Njambini but if we can upgrade that hospital to be level four as we are affected by the cold from Sasamua dam we can use the hospital,” Mukami said.

“We have already given the name of the hospital as Mama Mukami the name is ready, we are waiting  on the President to help,” he added.

Mukami is the wife of freedom fighter Dedan Kimathi.

She died aged 96 while receiving treatment at a hospital in Nairobi after developing breathing difficulties.

Mukami passed away on Thursday night, May 4, 2023.

Earlier, there was a public viewing of Mukami's body at Lee funeral home before heading to Njambini for burial.
