Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly Gladys Shollei has said it was good seeing legislators being very passionate about their views on the Finance Bill.

Speaking during an interview on KTN on Monday morning, she said their participation indicated they were keen on the way things are run in the country.

"It was good seeing legislators being very passionate about their views on the Finance Bill. That showed their participation in the way things are run in the country, which is a positive thing and what they are elected to do," she said.

Shollei said the Members of Parliament made good contributions during the debate, pointing out their agreements and disagreements.

She said the contributions also showed a good number of people had read the bill even though there were also those who had not read it and understood.

The Deputy Speaker said the in-between drama in parliament during the Finance Bill debate was good as it also kept Kenyans watching.

"The in-between drama we had in parliament during the debate was a good one. It kept Kenyans watching and in the process of watching, they became educated," Shollei said.

She said she was expecting the next Finance Bill debate to be more participatory since the public participation also led to certain changes made in the Bill.

Shollei said Kenyans participation is encouraged as they effect change, also noting that many asked her whether there has been a Finance Bill before.

"Many Kenyans asked me whether there has been a Finance Bill before because they assumed this was the first. I actually told them there has been one every single year," she said.
