In Summary

  • Raila will lead a mega Saba Saba rally in Nairobi's historic Kamukunji grounds.
  • Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka will hold an anti-government rally in Kathiani, Machakos county.
Azimio supporters dance at Kamukunji grounds while waiting for the arrival of ODM leader Raila Odinga on June 27, 2023.

Top Azimio leaders have split into groups in several towns across the country as they launch what they have termed the Third Liberation Movement.

This is part of the opposition's strategy to have its supporters own up to the resistance from the grassroots and ramp up their pressure against President William Ruto's administration.

In the plan, Azimio Leader Raila Odinga will lead a mega Saba Saba rally in Nairobi's historic Kamukunji Grounds.

The protesters will then march to the Central Business District, according to the organisers.

Azimio supporters are expected to assemble in at least two locations in Nairobi including Kamukunji and Kibera before marching to the CBD.

In Ukambani, Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka will hold an anti-government rally in Kathiani, Machakos county.

Kitui Senator Enock Wambua said the Wiper brigade will storm Kathiani to launch the Third Liberation Movement.

"We shall be all over the country on Friday, watch this space,'' he told the Star.

Several Wiper leaders and politicians are expected to lead the charge in the region as the opposition unveils a multi-pronged strategy against Ruto.

Azimio deputy captain and Narc Kenya Leader Martha Karua will lead other Mt Kenya leaders allied to the opposition for a major rally in Murang'a.

This would be the first time that Karua will be holding a big campaign against the Kenya Kwanza government in her Central Kenya backyard.

In Western Kenya, Azimio La Umoja One Kenya chairman Wycliffe Oparanya will lead the charge on his Kakamega turf.

In the neighbouring Bungoma County, DAP-K party boss Eugene Wamalwa will hold a mega rally in the region.

The series of rallies were approved by the coalition's top leadership during a strategy meeting on Thursday.

Opposition MPs have also planned a series of rallies in their constituencies in Azimio strongholds across the country.
