Political Analyst Herman Manyora has questioned remarks by Road Cabinet Secretary Kipchumba Murkomen on having taxpayers pay for the repairs of parts of the Expressway that were damaged during demos.
He said the expressway is a business and should therefore have insurance cover in case of any damages.
Manyora spoke on Friday during an interview with KTN.
"Expressway is business. You insure your business. You don't say Kenyans will pay you in the event of something," Manyora said.
Manyora said Murkomen ought to be fighting to know who put such a provision in the contract.
"This is our country. And we must surely say what is good for the country," Manyora said.
When Murkomen visited the Mlolongo section of the expressway to assess the damages caused during the Wednesday demos, he said it will cost up to Sh706 million to repair it.
"The people who have been organizing this mass action have told the nation they are doing so because they want to fight the cost of living but the damage only done on the Expressway for that short period could be anything up to $5 million (Sh706 million)," Murkomen said.
The Transport CS said it is the same taxpayer the Opposition claims to be fighting on behalf of over the cost of living reduced that will pay for the damage.
Murkomen assured the Expressway investors that the perpetrators will be brought to book.
