Amani National Congress party officials are putting plans in place to revive the party ahead of the 2027 general elections according to its Secretary General Omboko Millemba.

Milemba said the priority of the party is to have enough members before the next elections. He added that they are back to the drawing board after the party managed just a handful of MPs in the 2022 general elections as opposed to 2017.

"As a party, we started on the right note by securing over ten MPs seats in 2017 but the numbers dipped last year," he observed.

The lawmaker was speaking at local radio station (ANYOLE FM) during the morning breakfast show.

He said there is a need for the people of Western to embrace ANC as their party and give it maximum support to ensure it has enough MPs who can be recognised in Parliament.

"In Parliament you need only 22 MPs and you can stand on your own as a party. That means you have a formidable force to negotiate for anything in Parliament," he said.

The second-term  lawmaker said the ANC party where it stands now can't be recognised in parliament due to its minimal numbers.

The party currently has only eight members in parliament. They include woman rep Beatrice Adagala and Joseph Hamisi (nominated MP)

Elected MPs include Charles Gimose, Ikana Lusuli, Injendi Malulu, Ernest Kagesi, Omboko Millemba and Tandaza Kassim are the others.

In the 2017 general elections,  ANC got 14 seats in Parliament with over 60 MCAs. The party also bagged the governor seat in Nyamira County after the demise of  John Nyangarama.

Among those who were elected as MPs on ANC party in 2017 were Tindi Mwale, Omboko Millemba, Titus Khamala, Sakwa Bunyasi, Alfred Agoi, Oku Kaunya, Ernest Kagesi, Alfred Sambu, Aseka Miradi, Kassim Tandaza and Ayub Savula.

"In Ukambani where Wiper traces its roots for example, can pull out of Azimio and be recognised as a party because it has numbers and that's what we should go for and make our party strong," he added.

The party was affected largely by mass exodus of MPs and even MCAs before 2022 general elections leaving the party almost a shell.
