Kisumu Governor Anyang Nyong'o has dispelled reports that there has been a fresh boundary dispute between the Kisumu and Vihiga wards.

Nyong'o on Tuesday said the media reports from last Friday are false and that there is no tension over a boundary dispute.

"The newspaper story is Not True. There is no fresh boundary dispute between Kisumu and Vihiga counties as the boundaries are well-demarcated," the governor said.

The reports alleged that the Kisumu County Government had asked some traders from Luanda South ward in Vihiga to leave Maseno Town.

Ngong'o said following the reports in the media, a meticulous and detailed investigation was conducted by both the staff and the security organs of the county into the matter.

He said Maseno was recently elevated into a Municipality and what is going on is a normal physical planning activity to transform Maseno into an urban center befitting a Municipality status.

"This means any illegal structure built on road reserves must be removed because residents want a well-planned and clean town," the governor said.

He said what the traders are referring to as leaflets are actually official notices asking traders to pull down illegal structures and shanties they were constructing on road reserves.

"The people of Vihiga are free to do business in Maseno just like other communities, without any discrimination and I will not entertain any attempt by anybody to mistreat or interfere with any person living, working or trading in Maseno town," he said.

The governor urged those doing business in Maseno to follow the law and respect Physical planning regulations and work closely with the administration in the town.

Nyong'o noted that he enjoys close ties with Vihiga Governor Wilber Otichilo and that they speak frequently on many issues including peace in Maseno.

"Otichilo will not allow any individual or groups of people to destroy the good relationship we have had with the people of Vihiga for many years," he said.
