Uhuru mourns Geingob as humble and wise statesman

Former President Uhuru Kenyatta on Sunday joined fellow leaders in mourning the passing of Namibia President Hage Geingob.

The 82-year-old Geingob breathed his last at Lady Pohamba Hospital, succumbing to the battle against cancer at approximately 12:04 am.

His wife, Madame Monica Geingos, and children were by his side during his final moments.

Uhuru in his condolence described Geingob as a great leader who contributed immensely to the liberation of Namibia.

Sending his message of condolence to the family and Namibians, Uhuru said he was deeply saddened by the death of President Geingob.

“No words can sufficiently convey the magnitude of the loss as President Geingob was a distinguished servant of the people, an outstanding statesman and a great leader full of wisdom,

“Our thoughts and prayers are with his family, the Government and the people of Namibia during this difficult time of grieving and loss,” Uhuru said.

The former President expressed his gratitude for the privilege of interacting with President Geingob, acknowledging and cherishing the wisdom and knowledge of the statesman, shared with remarkable humility and grace.

“We will always remember and cherish his huge contribution to the welfare of the people of Namibia and Africa as a whole,” Uhuru noted.

In addition, Uhuru urged the people of Namibia to uphold the late President Geingob’s legacy and prayed to God to comfort them as they mourn their departed leader.

On Sunday, President William Ruto extended his condolences on the passing of Namibia President Hage Geingob.

Ruto eulogised Geingob as a  dedicated leader who was focused on serving his people.

"I extend my deepest condolences and sympathy to the family and the people of Namibia following the death of President Hage Geingob," he said.

The Head of State further described the late President as a believer of a unified Africa, who strongly promoted the continent’s voice and visibility in the global arena.
