An emotional grandmother, Zahara Wanjiru, disrupted a press conference at the Kenya National Hospital (KNH) on Friday, claiming that her 21-year-old grandson, Ismael Kamau, has been missing since the Githurai shootings on Tuesday.

Zahara tearfully recounted her efforts to locate Ismael, stating she has searched even in the mortuary but is yet to find him.

"Hustler fund ndio tunalipa? I want my grandson or I'll walk to statehouse. Afadhali mngeniua mimi. I don't know where he is, kutoka wakati huo Githurai. What are you guys telling me, ......I want my grandson," she said.

The young man seemingly vanished without a trace, leaving his worried grandmother with countless unanswered questions.

In the video, the grandmother was inconsolable as a group of journalists captured her emotional reaction.

The woman wonders how her grandson, a young man in the prime of his life, could disappear without any leads.

“Please help me bring my grandson home safely.” 

The hospital on Wednesday reported two more protesters died, bringing the death toll to around 15. No one knows for sure.

The Kenya Medical Association had earlier estimated that 13 people died, based on reports from different health facilities around the city. 

“So far, we have at least 13 people killed, but this is not the final number,” said Simon Kigondu, president of the Kenya Medical Association.

At KNH, Dr Wabwire said they had received more than 200 injured protesters by Wednesday morning.
