Businessman Jimi Wanjigi's lawyer Odero Osiemo has termed as political harassment police decision to camp outside the economist's home in Muthaiga.

Osiemo, who spoke to media at the home, said they are prepared for any eventuality.

“Obviously you know the political history, it is just political harassment that every Kenyan and now him is facing. He has faced this before. We are prepared for any eventuality. I believe these are all politics,” he stated.

Wanjigi’s residence in the affluent neighbourhood was the scene of high drama from Thursday afternoon after police officers surrounded the home for reasons that remain unclear.

Police cordoned off his residence with yellow tape reminiscent to what happens at scenes of crime.

Wanjigi claimed that the officers wanted to arrest him but he did not understand what they wanted or what he had done.

“They are outside the house and want to arrest or harm me,” he said.

He said the police officers outside his house were demanding to be let into the compound.

Police claimed Wanjigi was seen along Limuru Road with a group of people dishing out money.

The officers said he was chased and he drove off before he vanished into Karura Forest.

Wanjigi termed the move as harassment saying driving around or giving out money, if that were true, are not crimes.

His son, Maina, in a brief statement to the media said of the heavy presence of police at their home: "It's not shocking. It's not the first time we've been raided. Seems like whenever we are a threat to them they decide to raid us but this is all in the spirit of political freedom."

He claimed they were being victimised for holding contrary opinion to the government.
