Kirinyaga Governor Anne Waiguru has supported President William Ruto’s decision to constitute a broad-based government.

The county boss said the new government will go a long way in unifying the country, and put a stop to divisive politics.

Waiguru said unity of the country was paramount if citizens are to benefit from the ongoing Kenya Kwanza development initiatives.

She called on residents of Mt Kenya region to resist divisive leaders and support Ruto’s administration.

"We the people of the mountain region cannot afford to be in the Opposition. I urge that we continue to support President Ruto’s government and give him ample time to fulfil his election pledges to the mountain region,” said Waiguru.

Ruto dissolved the Cabinet recently and constituted a new one that accommodated members from the Opposition.

The President named John Mbadi, Hassan Joho, Wycliffe Oparanya and Opiyo Wandayi to head various dockects in his Cabinet.

The four ODM leaders were until their appointment some of Ruto's fiercest critics.

Speaking during the ground breaking ceremony of Sagana Industrial Park and EPZ Zone in the county, Waiguru cautioned leaders in the region who have taken to early campaigns saying the move would affect government's development agenda.

The Council of Governors chair urged the region’s leaders to focus on development and be patient until the appropriate time for campaigns comes.

“When the right time comes, the mountain region will make diverse consultations amongst stakeholders to chart the political way forward,” she said.

Waiguru reiterated that the newly commissioned Sagana Industrial Park and EPZ Zone is one of it's kind and first in the region, adding that the centre will create jobs for the county and the entire nation.

The governor lauded Ruto’s efforts to calm the recent high political temperatures, saying the President managed to smartly contain the situation.

Ruto and his government came under intense pressure from Kenyans led by the Gen Z who orchestrated a series of street protests demanding for better governance and accountability.

The mass action was sparked by planned introduction of unpopular taxes under the Finance Bill, 2024, which Ruto eventually withdrew.

The President's decision to incorporate the Opposition into government appears to have quelled the growing dissent against his administration if last Thursday's dismall showing of the much hyped Nane Nane protests is anything to go by.
