Deputy President Rigathi Gachagua has pleaded with President William Ruto to stop any alleged plans to impeach him and let him serve for the full five-year term.

Speaking at a roadside rally in Mwea, Kirinyaga County, the DP said the President should let him be his deputy for the remaining three years.

"There are so many things that are stuck. He should let the remaining three years be a period of working for Kenyans,” he said.

Gachagua added that after the five years, it will be up to Ruto to decide how to move forward.

“What he will decide thereafter will be up to him; we will respect his decision,” he said.

“We need to build roads, reform the coffee sub-sector, and tea. There are so many projects that were started by retired President Uhuru Kenyatta that are not complete,” he said.

“I am asking MPs to do their parliamentary work and let the President and I do the work of the Executive,” he said.

The alleged impeachment plot against Gachagua has widened the division in the Opposition coalition, Azimio La Umoja.

Wiper leader Kalonzo Musyoka and DAP-K boss Eugene Wamalwa declared they would rally the opposition troops to save Gachagua from what they called a political witchhunt.

The two said the opposition would not support impeachment that does not include Ruto.

Independence party Kanu, another Azimio affiliate, also insists on having both Ruto and his deputy impeached.

However, in the National Assembly, Azimio Minority Leader Junet Mohammed has been coordinating the signing of the petition to send the DP packing.
