President William Ruto has congratulated the newly elected
Botswana President Duma Boko.
In a message on X, Ruto said his victory was an affirmation of the trust and confidence the people of Botswana have in his leadership.
He went on to say that it also affirms the confidence they have in him advancing their country's prosperity.
“Your Excellency and Dear Brother, on behalf of the Government and the People of the Republic of Kenya and my behalf, I convey to you, Your Excellency and through you to the Government and the People of the Republic of Botswana my heartfelt congratulations on your successful election as the President of the Republic of Botswana," Ruto said.
“Your decisive historic victory in the recent elections is a clear affirmation of the trust and confidence that the great people of Botswana have in your leadership, vision and dedication to advancing Botswana’s development and prosperity.”
He further said that with Duma’s ascent to Botswana’s presidency, he remains confident that the relations between Kenya and Botswana will continue to grow.
Ruto said he looks forward to building further relations that deepen ties between the two nations and benefit the people.
He wished President Duma well as he began his duties as Head of State.
“Excellency, as you assume office, I take cognizance of the momentous and brotherly relations that Kenya and Botswana enjoy which are grounded on shared values and commitment to bolster our relations," Ruto said.
“I am confident that under your guidance, this partnership will continue to flourish, fostering deeper ties that benefit both our peoples and contribute to regional stability and prosperity. I wish Your Excellency good health, happiness, prosperity and well-being of the brotherly people of Botswana. Please accept, your Excellency, the assurances of my highest esteem.”
Duma is the sixth president of Botswana.
He won the elections after Batswana (people of Botswana) overwhelmingly voted in a new government throwing the former ruling party under the bus after 58 years in power.
Analysts describe him as the president who did the
unthinkable.
