Deputy President Kithure Kindiki has said that Kenya faces many internal and external threats to its sustainability.

Speaking during the awarding of the Charter to the National Intelligence and Research University on Tuesday, Kindiki, urged the institution to help the country ensure long-term sustainability.

He said this is the only way Kenya can deal with these internal and external threats to its existence.

The Deputy President said he is very optimistic that the Intelligence and Research University will offer solutions to these modern-day threats.

“To colleagues in the National Intelligence and Research University, I want to challenge you to continually project how you can assist the government under the leadership of President William Ruto, and the country on how we can ensure the long-term sustainability of our country.

“We are faced with a number of internal and external threats that threaten the sustainability of Kenya in the long term and therefore, as we engage in preparing Intelligence professionals, I hope you will give us solutions on how the sustainability of this country will be assured for many centuries to come from the very complex internal and external threats that we face in the modern world,” Kindiki said.

The National Intelligence and Research University College is established under Legal Notice No 96 of 2021 as a Constituent College of National Defence University of Kenya (NDU-K).

The institution focuses on intelligence studies and research on complex security threats to protect national and regional interests. 

The ceremony was held at State House, Nairobi, where the Islamic University of Kenya was also awarded the Charter.

The event was hosted by President William Ruto, at State House, Nairobi on Tuesday.

Several leaders, including Cabinet Secretaries Julius Ogamba (Education) and Aden Duale (Environment, Climate Change and Forestry) and Principal Secretary for Higher Education and Research, Beatrice Inyangala, among others.

The leaders of the two institutions were also present.
