Father of gospel artist Fortune Mwikali killed

Father to popular Kamba gospel song artist, Fortune Mwikali, has been hacked to death with a panga.

The body of the late Musyoka Mutonya aka Ndekele,75, was discovered lying outside his house at Katia village in Nguuku location of Mumoni subcounty in Kitui on Wednesday morning by a farm hand.

According to the Katia assistant chief, Mutuku Mwinzi, the body of the deceased had a deep panga gash on the head and was in a pool of blood when it was found.

"It is not clear who killed the old man or the motive of the murder. He was staying alone in his house and he was killed on Tuesday night," said the assistant chief.

He added that the murder of the man was reported by his wife who lives in a different house just a couple of meters from his husband's house.

"The wife of the deceased reported to me that this morning her farm help went to her husband's house and found him lying dead outside," said the administrator.

 He said the suspected murderers appeared to have left their shoes about 50 meters from the deceased house before accessing his house and hacking him to death.

"When we arrived at the home, we followed some footprints that at some point conversed into shoe marks. It clear that the killers approached the deceased house bear footed to carry out the heinous act," said.

At the time Mwinzi spoke to journalists on the phone at around 10 am, the body had not been collected by police.

In a post on Facebook, Mwikali mourned her father.

"Someone should wake me up. I am dreaming," she said.

"Sijui niseme nini ulinicall jana tukaogea ukiinita mamangu, sikujua ni simu ya mwisho. Ni wewe tu ulikuwa kijaa peke yako kama vile umenizaa nikiwa msichana tu peke yangu, lala salama."

This loosely translates to; "I don't know what to say. You called me yesterday and we spoke as you called me my mother. I didn't know it was the last phone call. You were the only boy just like how I was your only girl. Sleep well Dad."
